ARE WE REALLY SERIOUS ABOUT CUTTING OUR DEBT

SO MY QUESTION TO ALL IS--do we really want to reduce our national debt or are we just talkingoutourass!!

ENTER -Erskine Bowles and Sen. Alan Simpson, co-chairs of the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform - and their report released a couple of days ago detailing some hard hitting ways to ACTUALLY CUT OUR DEBT.

A BIT OF BACKGROUND-

we have the republicans yelling that the only thing we need to do is lower taxes for the rich and super rich and our national debt will sink like the titanic--BUT IN A MUCH SHORTER TIME FRAME AAANNNNNND-WILL CREATE ZILLIONS OF FANTASTIC PAYING NON-GOVERNMENT JOBS TO BOOT.

the democrats on the other hand, think that all we need to do is raise taxes on the rich and very rich and DITTO --our national debt will sink like the titanic--BUT IN A MUCH SHORTER TIME FRAME AAANNNNNND-WILL CREATE ZILLIONS OF FANTASTIC PAYING NON-GOVERNMENT JOBS TO BOOT.

DONE BOTH AND SUPRISE SUPRISE--THIS IS WHERE ITS GOTTEN US. AND YET, we still have these same politicians and the newbies elected just 10 days ago promising to change "the washington ways" and then succumbing to the same "ways" they supposedly opposed.

the greatest threat to our national security is our financial security. we are spending our way into the poorest of the poor houses and whenever we are confronted with the empty piggy bank or balance sheet, we react by immediately blaming the other side for all our financial problems. the fact of the matter is that we are all to blame for the situation we find ourselves in. we continue to spend and spend and then tax and tax and then spend and spend--well --you get the picture.

we do not have the courage to finally realize that we are going to have to make some very hard choices that involve our most "sacred cows"-defense spending, social security, medicade,

its always amazed me to hear this or that person rant about not wanting their taxes raised and at the same time yelling till their blue in the face that america is going broke. we want to keep all of our perks and strip the other guy of his/her perks.

i'm a bit older but i would still be willing to hold off for another year or two if it helps to keep social security going for a few more years. i'd be willing to pay a bit more deductable on my vets medical if it helps to spread it around to more that need it most.

yet, there are very rich older vets and soon to be retired people that will fight tooth and nail to keep all their vet benefits and social security benefits even though their are making hundreds of thousands and in some cases millions of bucks a year. we need to remember that social security was not intended for rich folk--it was intended to be a safety net for the poor workers or those with no savings after working honest jobs for their whole life.

i think of sara palin and her conservative viewpoint that we are becoming a socialist nation and a welfare state--YET, she fails to inform us that alaska takes in more federal/state funds for welfare and other social programs than any other state in the union. if we pulled out all the federal and state workers and projects in the state, they would be left with virtually no jobs--

senators from every state--so-called blue and red states- haul tons of "pork barrel" projects back to their home states year after year and have the balls to go on tv and rant about ending these very same projects---JUST NOT THEIR PROJECTS!

we have two choices in this debate-
A-ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING ABOUT REDUCING THE DEBT BY TACKLEING THE SACRED COWS-MEDICAID, SOCIAL SECURITY AND DEFENSE SPENDING

OR

B-CONTINUE TO SAY WE WANT TO DO SOMETHING AND B.S. EACH OTHER AND CONTINUE TO PASS IT OFF TO FUTURE GENERATIONS

its time to "put up or shut up" to "shit or get off the pot"--THAT SIMPLE

i've said it before and i'll say it again--damn--its a bitch keeping a blog alive and thriving. or is it just staying focused and centered. anywho, here i am again wondering why o why i can't seem to find stuff to talk about when all you have to do is talk to my friends and they'll tell you that I ALWAYS HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY ABOUT MOST THINGS!!

that being said, i guess its a whole lot easier to speak it as opposed to having to write it down on this here blog. but i do miss blogging cause its kinda of soothing sitting here and just allowing myself to rant and rave all i want and when its all said and typed- i haven't caused anyone any heartache nor ruffled any feathers--not that i'm gonna care much if feathers are ruffled or panties are soiled or deedee's pooped is picked up with my fingers day and nite and so on and so on!!!

so i shall try and try again and again to keep this going if for no other reason than to keep my typing skills up to date and keep the old arthritis at arms or fingers length!

DADT AND OUR WEAK WILLED PRESIDENT

to all my dear friends, its a great day today that a federal judge has granted an injunction against DADT-DON'T ASK/DON'T TELL in a suit brought by ---DRUM ROLL PLEASE--THE LOG CABIN REPUBLICANS ---yes, u heard it and read it correctly, a group of republicans that happen to be gay challenged the law and have won a victory for gay and lez soldiers in the US ARMED FORCES.

the sad news is that it will be president obama's DOJ that will have the choice of whether they appeal it or let it stand--
HMMMMMMMM-if my slightly sexy and feeble mind recalls, it was this same doj that appealed the DOMA ACT.

the same goes for the presidents refusal to grant us equal rights in the marriage arena--i don't give a rats ass if he is opposed to it on religious grounds--i didn't fucking elect the pope a couple of novembers ago-i elected a civil head of these UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

where the fuck is his head, much less his heart, his conscience. would he like it if his parents hadn't been able to marry cause one was white and one black and a kind hearted neighbor or politician told him"hey i'm with you dude, just give us time"--then again he wouldn't even be here would he.

YEA, I KNOW I'VE BEEN ABSENT FOR A WHILE--BEEN HAVING SHOES(ISSUES) WITH MY KINDA UNSTOPPABLE DESIRE TO STUFF ALL TYPES OF CRAP INTO MY MOUTH. I'M NOT FAT-165 LBS AT 6FT --BUT I DO HAVE A GOOD DEAL OF FAT DEPOSIT AROUND MY WAIST AND THATS WHAT HAS ME BOTH PISSED AT MYSELF AND A BIT WORRIED.

I'M REALLY NOT EATING THAT MUCH CRAP- ITS JUST THAT I TEND TO EAT LARGER PORTIONS AND WHEN I GO OUT, I EAT THE LARGE PORTIONS AND THEN GO FOR A DESSERT. I'VE MANAGED TO INCLUDE LOTS OF FRUITS IN MY DAILY DIET--AN APPLE, AT LEAST ONE ORANGE AND ONE BANANA EVERYDAY ALONG WITH ABOUT A CUP OF RASBERRIES AND BLUEBERRIES DAILY WITH EITHER OATMEAL AND/OR NON FAT GREEK YOGURT. DINDIN IS USUALLY A CHICKEN THIGHT BROILED WITH SPINNICH, MUSHROOM, ONION, GARLIC AND A WHOLE TOMATO WITH SOME OLIVE OIL.

MY EXERCISE ROUTINE IS A DAILY WALK/JOG OF ABOUT 3-3.5 MILES MON-FRIDAY. BUT I NOTICE THAT NOWADAYS, ITS EASY FOR ME TO FIND A REASON NOT TO DO IT, SO I HAVE TO CONSTANTLY STAY ON TOP OF IT.

OTHER THAN THAT, I THINK I'VE DONE PRETTY WELL IN KEEPING MY GOALS I SET FOR MYSELF LAST YEAR.

During the campaign, Obama famously told Patrick Gaspard, his political director, "just give me the ball." Today, Obama is the president of the United States. He's got a lot of people screaming at him and cheering for him, and almost as many shouting advice. But he's the guy with the ball. The question is what he does with it.

I STILL BELIEVE IN PRESIDENT OBAMA--BUT, AND THIS IS A "BUT" THAT GROWS WITH EACH PASSING DAY, I AM GETTING A BIT WORRIED THAT WE ELECTED THE NICEST GUY AROUND WITH TONS OF BRAINS, LOADS OF SEX APPEAL, AND WITH A DESIRE TO DO GOOD.. ALL SOUNDS NICE ENOUGH, ITS JUST THAT THE JOB OF THE PRESIDENT(REGARDLESS OF WHAT THE PREVIOUS OCCUPANTS OF THE WHITE HOUSE HAVE DONE/NOT DONE) REQUIRES HIM TO LEAD- BE IT BY CROSS PARTY LINES OR NO CROSS PARTY LINES, BY KNOCKING HEADS TO ACHIEVE HIS GOALS- WHICH BY THE WAY- ARE THE GOALS OF THE MAJORITY OF THE PEOPLE THAT VOTED HIM INTO OFFICE.

this is by and large true. i didn't necessarily expect him to remake the world-but i did hope that he would follow through with "YES WE CAN" instead of no we can't cause my fellow democrats are a bunch of wimps and because the republicans hate me cause i'm black.

if the new definition of being "AN INDEPENDENT VOTER" means sticking your ass--as opposed to using your mind--up in the air and shifting repeatedly with every gust of wind that comes along, then i don't wanna be called an independent any more.

if I'm to believe what the pundits are saying- the same people that voted for Brown in Massachusetts are also the same voters that voted for President Obama! in the span of a mere year, they have determined that they are going to send the congress and the President a message that they are unhappy. maybe I'm just too stupid to understand- but do these so-called independents not understand the complexity of the huge problems that the President inherited? are they so easily swayed by the talking heads, the pundits, the 24 hour entertainment channels such as CNN, MSNBC, and FOX?

if memory serves me correctly, then Senator Obama campaigned on health care for all and made it one of the cornerstones of his campaign, and now all of a sudden- every one's going around amazed that the President is actually trying to overhaul the health care system the way he said he would. The President said that taking the war to the enemy in Afghanistan would also be a priority and now people are going crazy because he is actually sending more troops to that country!! i don't necessarily agree with this strategy, but i do remember what he said and i did vote for him.

the real problem as i see it is that once elected, it becomes rather difficult to stay focused on the promises made, and instead the focus shifts to making damn sure that the President, the Senator, the Representative is RE ELECTED!!!!! IT IS AFTER ALL, NOT JUST HIS/HER JOB/FUTURE THAT IS AT STAKE. THE TRAIN LOAD OF HANGERS ON THAT EACH AND EVERY POLITICIAN BRINGS TO THE OFFICE IS DAUNTING. I am sure that there is probably a lot of good intentions, but we as Americans have to face the real world and understand that once elected, the office, the perks that come with the office are just too damn good to wanna give up and therefore, it becomes a battle of wanting to do the people's work and desperately wanting to keep the office come re election.

it would have been refreshing if then Senator Obama would have come out and said "if you send me to Washington, i give you my word that i will do the work that you have sent me to do and if i am not elected in four years because of it-so be it" well, as much as i like Obama and respect that he is trying to do what he said he would do, I am also not stupid enough to believe that he and his staff do not measure each and every move based on 2012.

the only remedy for this is quite simple and yet will never happen-for both good and bad reasons.

ONE TERM FOR EACH AND EVERY ELECTED POLITICIAN.

there really is no other way to say it--"DEMOCRATS HAVE THEIR BALLS GLUED TO THEIR THIGHS" how many more times are we gonna see these elected democratic "leaders" throw away every opportunity to enact much needed legislation such as health care for all, repeal of DADT, moving forward on equal marriage rights for all, school reform, etc. what is it about democrats that stops them from enacting legislation when during the Bush era, the Republicans were able to enact most everything they wanted. i am glad i am no longer a democrat- have not been one for many years now. i still believe in President Obama, i just hope that if he gets anything out of the Massachusetts results--that he realizes that "we-those that voted for him" REALLY REALLY VOTED FOR CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN.!! we believed that he would do as Jesus did and go into the temple and chase the scoundrels out. i don't need to see bi-partisanship if it hinders enactment of legislation.

i still remember where i was when JFK, RFK, AND MLK JR. were assassinated. i remember the funerals for JFK AND MLK JR. MLK JR was just a preacher and yet he like my other great hero, Gandhi, risked their lives every day to bring about equal justice for all people. i still remember the signs for "colored" and "whites", i remember also being stopped and frisked by the border patrol in El Paso. i remember buses being stopped and the border patrol coming on board and asking for i.d. from those who looked "Mexican". we have come a long way here in America and through out the world, progress is still ongoing- though at a slower pace.

it almost seems as though the United states "IS" the government of this Island and it might well turn out to be so. i am trying to fathom how and why the leaders of Haiti have not shown their face, have not lent a hand, have not mobilized their forces to help. i am dumbstruck by the absence of any officials. where are they? have they all been killed in a collapsed building? have they all fled to the surrounding areas for safety? have they fled with their families to near by countries?

i remember the quakes that struck Mexico city, that struck in china, the tsunamis thru out Asia--in all of these areas, once the tragedy struck, the actual governments quickly went into recovery mode. the only exception was in the country of Burma because the murderous regime found it better to let the population starve and die.

i am very proud of what President Obama has said and how he has mobilized this great nation of ours so quickly, sadly it was not the case during hurricane Katrina.

I've been thinking about things that make my life less enjoyable or less fulfilling and the above items seem to be recurring themes. will i manage to accomplish all or even some of the above, that remains to be seen and i shall keep you posted on the progress.

years ago, i would always tell my friends that i made it a point to shower 2-3 times a day and they would ask why. i would tell them that a person who only showers once a day in his youth grows up accustomed to a daily shower and then in his later years goes from one shower a day to maybe one shower every other day and then maybe one shower a week. its this fear of "growing old" that keeps me trying to stay on top of the things i enjoyed doing and makes me take two showers a day so i don't become a ''stinky" old fart in a few years. i notice that its not as easy as it used to be to burn off all the fatty foods i eat. years past, I'd eat a whole Sara lee cheese cake with strawberry filling and wash it down with a quart of ice cold butter milk, devour a large steak or BBQ ribs, mashed taters, soul food, etc and stay so slim i had to put rocks in my pockets to keep the wind from blowing me away. nowadays, people use me as a shield against the wind. OK, so maybe i exaggerate slightly--OK--a lot, but i look at myself in the mirror and i see those fatty deposits around my waist and they look so foreign to me because for 50 years, i didn't have them.

maybe its the midlife crises thing I'm going through or something, but yea, i look backwards and realize that those last ten, fifteen years zipped by like nobodies business. i don' know if others feel kinda unsure about what it is they are supposed to be doing at this age- then again, its been my life to kinda stumble from stage to stage in my life. thankfully, I've managed to come thru pretty much in one piece with a few scars and scratches. i wonder what life would have been like if my family had been less dysfunctional and had been around when i needed some guidance with my sexuality and just life issues in general. its odd that i have no connections to my past, i know no old school mates, best friends growing up, old army chums. i don't see it as somehow bad or missing or sad--i just see it as different. are people with lifelong connections any better off, happier, healthier, wealthier or wise?

so i had this long standing desire to make traditional mole poblano ever since my dad would go to the store and buy the canned( even though it comes in a jar) mole paste and would add who knows what to it and out came this slightly sweet/spicy reddish/blackish pasty sauce that he poured over cooked chicken. because i love and collect cook books, i happened to come upon one written by a family member of the late Mexican painter Frida kahlo. the pictures of the traditional menus done up and served in traditional earthen ware was enough to make me go down to the Grand central market in downtown los angeles searching for the 3 different types of chiles i needed. This is the place to go if your looking for ingredients to make mole, menudo, chalupas or any type of Mexican or for that matter, Central American foods. if you happen to live in Los Angeles or will be coming to visit our wonderful city, it well worth the hassle of finding parking downtown and while your here, drop by the Grand Central Market for some great Latin American "fast foods". while your in the area, you can also visit the flower district, the garment district and the jewelry district-- all fun things to do and great bargains to be had for the careful shopper.

anyway, the recipe was not for the squeamish as it is a real all hands on deck type of endeavor. But the rewards were so wonderfully tasteful and satisfying.

have been keeping up with the continuing situation in iran and i am continualy stunned and amazed by the courage that these people put themselves in. they must know that it they don't get beat while protesting, the chances that someone in security has recorded them on video to be picked up in the middle of the night. i believe that the biggest reason that why the corrupt government will not be able to kill this revolution is simply because of modern technology. when so many iranians have some type of communications gadget-phone, pda, camera, etc- the government can shut down the grids and yet the info will get out eventually and usually as it happens.

i am also heartened by the changing tactics of the demonstraters and i think this will solidify as the killings by the gov goons increases. as this video shows, the protesters are starting to answer the beatings and attacks with the same tactics. i know that this will lead to further and more harsher violence on the part of the government, but i also believe that it is the only course-save for the voluntary retreat of the gov. which will not happen.

Sometimes, making laws by majority rule is plain wrong and hurtful. i cannot imagine the pain and suffering that married gay couples in maine and california must feel after being told that it is legal and right to marry and then to be told that your fellow citizens have changed their minds and have determined that you are not equal in their eyes and do not have the same rights and obligations as they do.

I have heard the arguments for denining gay people the right to marry, but we all know that these reasons are nothing short of ideas based on ignorance, hate, bigotry, or religious intolerance.

how i choose to show my devotion to the person i love is not and should never be up to others to decide. it is my god given right.

i watched the victory party of the "yes on 1" campaign and if i didn't know better- it seemed that they had won a mega-million lottery prize- instead of having just denied thousands of fellow citizens the same basic rights that they enjoy. they did not see these fellow citizens as being someone's brother, sister, uncle, niece, mother, father or even grandparent. they only saw them as sub-humans, as not worthy of equal rights.

What i have always proposed to begin to overcome this ignorance and hate is to publicly come out to family, friends, co-workers, and anybody within earshot so that next time someone calls out "fag" or demeans gays- someone will think-"wait, they are talking about someone i know" and hopefully stand up to the prejudgice.

when i was a wee little boy, i would sit in front of our family "color" tv(well actually it was a grainy black and white tv that had this plastic multi-colored sheet that you attached to the front of the tv to make it color--REALLY)and watch tons of cowboy/western tv shows. we would go to the drive-in movie park and sit thru an all-nite marathon western nite. its interesting and kinda sad that young kids nowadays don't get to see any westerns or even war movies anymore.

i am yet again saddened by my fellow Americans who continue to refuse to grant gay Americans equal rights. it seems that marriage rights for all Maine residents will go down to defeat and in Olympia, Wa.- it seems that expanded gay domestic partnership rights will pass.

as for the races for governor of Virginia and New Jersey--i think it was pretty much common knowledge that McDonnell would win big for the Republicans in Virginia. As for Governor Corzine who spent like a gazillion bucks-really closer to 200 million to stay in off-in New Jersey, i'm really kinda glad that he got his rich booty handed to him on a Dixie paper plate by a rather chubby guy by the name of Christie.

The other millionaire who ran for re election was New York City mayor Bloomberg going for his 3rd term. He also has spent close to 20 million bucks staying in office. And though he will win tonite--he came close to also loosing his rich ass to a somewhat known democract named Thompson.

The only really bright spot in all of this seems to be in the unlikely place of New York district 23. there a right wing Repub. by the name of Hoffman -endorsed by the likes of ex-gov Palin and others of like mind- seems to be actually getting the crap beat out of him by the democrat, Owens. it seems that this particular district was heavily conservative and went for Obama last year and seemed to be going for Hoffman in the polling.

1. In a skillet large enough to hold the Brussels sprouts in one layer, heat the olive oil to medium and saute the bacon with the garlic cloves until the garlic is lightly browned and the bacon is crisp, about 4 minutes. Remove the bacon from the skillet and set aside and discard the garlic cloves.
2. Raise the heat to medium high and add the sprouts to the pan, stirring to coat evenly with the olive oil. Leave the sprouts to cook undisturbed in a single layer for about five minutes, until they develop a deep brown, caramelized color. Stir to allow the other side of the sprouts to brown as well. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
3. Deglaze the pan with 1/4 cup of water and stir well to loosen any caramelized bits on the bottom of the pan. Cover and reduce to a simmer.
4. Meanwhile bring a pot of water to boil for the gnocchi and cook according to package directions.
5. Test the sprouts for doneness by piercing with a sharp knife; they should be al dente, not mushy. Add more water and cook longer if needed. As soon as they are done, scoop the gnocchi out of the water with a slotted spoon and add to the pan with the Brussels sprouts.
6. Stir in the bacon, chopped pecans and thyme and turn the heat to high to thicken the sauce. Add a bit of reserved pasta water if necessary.
7. Taste for seasonings.
8. Serve and enjoy!

Tuesday is election day in several parts across America and things are still pretty much up in the air in most all expect in Virginia where Republican gubernatorial nominee Bob McDonnel, is ahead of the Democratic nominee- Creigh Deeds. even though virginia went for Obama in the general election, its still a relatively "red state" and i don't think anyone really thought that Deeds had a great chance of winning.

its another thing in New Jersey where Democratic Gov. Jon Corzine and Republican Chris Christi(former U.S. Attorney) are running neck to neck with some polls going for Corzine and others for Christi. Christi has had a rather sloppy ride these past few months with his yes i did/no i didn't cause an accident. yes i did/no i didn't hit a guy on a motorcycle equivications. Hell, even his weight got drawn into the frey. i still believe that even though it seems that a lot of New Jersey voters don't like Corzine- they like Christi even less, and Corzine will pull out squeaker come tomorrow.

OF SPECIAL INTEREST TO ME AND ALL FAIR MINDED PEOPLE ARE THE ELECTIONS FOR MARRIAGE EQUALITY AND EQUAL PROTECTIONS FOR GAYS THAT ARE OCCURING IN THE STATE OF MAINE, THE CITY OF KALAMAZOO, MI AND THE STATE OF WASHINGTON.
as is always the case in fighting for our rights, we are up against the same dishonest, hateful, and just plain homophobic forces that prevailed in the california NO ON 8 REFERANDUM this past november.
its a toss up in all of these and it will come down to whether or not Americans in these areas finally want to put a stop to hate and bigotry.

The Newest Deal relays a riveting story:
In a stunning move, Mahmoud Vahidnia (pictured right), a student from the prestigious Sharif university and winner of the International Math Olympics, directly confronted Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei during the question-and-answer portion of a conference that was being held [last Wednesday]. When Khamenei asked if the audience had any questions, Vahidnia stood up and answered, "Yes, I have some words with you.”
What followed was a 20 minute critique of both Khamenei and the Islamic Republic, coupled with interruptions by some of the Basij students supportive of the regime. Vahidnia criticized the propagandist nature of state media, the security climate stifling the country, censorship of the free press, the power structure of the Islamic Republic, and the very inability to criticize the Supreme Leader himself.

Why does national TV show all the events untruthfully? For example all the events after the election: why do you support them [national TV shows], when everyone knows they are lying? Khamenei dodged the questions and instead called Vahidnia dishonest. He claimed that he receives (and is receptive to) criticism every day, and that he always adjusts his behavior to account for errors. Soon thereafter, Khamenei departed behind a curtain before first receiving praise from a Basiji student in attendance. The prayer that Khamenei was scheduled to lead at the end of the ceremony did not occur amid his hasty departure. Vahidnia was reportedly detained by security officials soon after the event.
The dean of the university later claimed that Khamenei had given the student permission to speak out. According to Mowjcamp, the student was arrested.

it used to be that Americans were gun ho about everything and never feared anybody from the outside doing anything to us. now ever since 9/11-WE AMERICANS have become a nation of sissies and i don't mean the Gay kind. Representative Foxx of north carolina stated no less than 9 times that her constituants "feared" what "this house" is doing. By "this house"-she means the house of representatives that is controlled by the Democrats and along with that the Dem. controlled senate and the White House with that black president-Barack H. Obama.

Is she really saying that the good old boys from the south are soooo frightened that they are about to poop in their pants because of the passage of the health care bill now pending passage in the house? with all of their pistols and rifles and automatic weapons and yet they still tinkle in their overalls!!

if she is talking about the so-called "tea-baggers"- not to be confused with the origional tea baggers of the gay varity--that is not the impression i or anyone else would get from watching all the U-TUBE vids out there.. to me, they all looked to be pretty pissed off at the fact that this black person actually beat their chosen one-PALEN- AND NOW IS THE RULER OF THE FREE WORLD--OOPS SORRY- I MEAN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

I've been reading all the comments from both sides regarding abolishing DADT and I wanted to share my two cents worth.

I am a 58 year old gay American Vietnam era veteran who served with the U.S. ARMY from April of 1970 to April 1972. I was drafted and if I'd had my wish - I would have enlisted in the Air Force. I did my basic at Fort Ord in California where I was a squad leader with like 10-12 guys under me. From there I was shipped to Fort Hood, Texas for the remainder of my 2 year stint. My MOS (Military Occupation Specialty) was military police. By the time I arrived at Fort Hood, Tx., most of my close buddies knew of my gayness and were ok with it.

I had one incident when this short, very drunk kid yanked me out of my bunk and kinda pushed me and then let loose with a short burst of "faggot, etc, etc." He then stormed out of the barracks and later that evening I was sitting on the steps and he walked up to me and apologized for being a jerk and that was the last and only time that these supposed "lower class, unsophisticated, red neck" kids ever bothered me. If anything, I was protected and left alone. Back then we had open showers and toilets--no privy stalls/partitions and no one seemed to mind this tall, skinny, gay guy showering alongside them. If anything, I was hit on on a few occasions and yes I took advantage of the opportunity.

Now some 40 years later, my nephew, a Marine drill Sargent with 3 tours in Iraq tells me that he personally knows Marines who are gay and so afraid of being found out that they are forced to do the dishonorable thing and lie about their sexuality and date girls just to fit in. i\I can't imagine the stress and sadness these young men go through just to be able to serve in the Marines and serve their country.

so, i’m sitting out on the patio looking out over my domain- in complete nekedness enjoying the evening breeze contemplating our next move--stick it out here in this beautiful, picturesque, place that i have fallen for or pack up our things and head back to cali 2 days early. “but why leave such a lovely and scenic place”?-you ask.
it all comes down to my nose. yep, thats right-u heard it hear first. i can continue to do the Bozeman thing all the while putting up with a runny nose, sore throat, itchy/red eyes and chapped nose. popping those ALAREST 24 HOUR RELIEVE tablets like there’s no tomorrow(and by the way 24HOURS by whose clock-i’m consuming these every 3 hours!!). or, call it a wonderful 7 days getting to know this quaint little city, its people, its many scenic rivers, meadows, creeks, streams, and its many many fields of alfalfa, some looking like mysterious crop circles when in reality its the way they are irrigated using long sections of water pipe conneted to motorized wheels called pivots.

of all the contingencies i had planned for, never once did the question of allergies come to mind. everytime i saw the pics of my cabin--set in this wonderful meadow shock full of greenery --nevber once did i even imagine that maybe just maybe-i might be allergic to the very reasons why montana is so pretty this time of year. every place u turn to is full of flowers of some type or other. the river banks and creek banks are overwhelmed with brush- and a lot of it in bloom.

its saturday morning and i’m back to the cabin from a 2.5 mile fast pace walk into the forest up from the cabin. its like 8am and the sun is already out and hot though the temp is still on the cool side. i’ve past no houses and if a tree fell, i’m sure it would make a sound cause right now its complete silence 'cept for a bird chirp every now and then. as long as no bears decide to play tag with me--neked or not--i guess its gonna be a pretty lonely and brisk walk. yes, my allergies are killing me and yet, i could see myself buying a nice little farm out here--let me just win the lotto and then we’ll figure the particulars. i have decided that tomorrow, sunday, will be our last full day here and we will head out on monday morn and try and make it to fillmore, utah before nitefall and spend the nite there.

i am so happy that deedee and honeybun decided to make the road trip up here with me-as did my hansey, booboo, honeybun1,and our big hobo. myself, i am still pleased as hawaiian punch taht i finally made my montana road trip. on the way up we saw some pretty stunning scenery and have met some really nice and helpful people. for those that know me-you bet i stopped and asked random individuals where the nearest this and that was-and most of the time i already kinda new- i just wanted to take a measure of the people along the way.

i’ve met a couple of people who knew the store where i took my flyfishing lessons, just met a young lady while visiting the small town of livingston who is from los angles and has family still living here in livingston. i’ve had some great food while staying in bozeman

SUBARU RULES HERE IN BOZEMAN--or for that matter any truck, suv or 4 wheel drive. as of this writing, i have not seen a lexus, bmw, mercedes, and certainly no rolls. at first, one wonders why the subaru--cause its 4 wheel drive and can function as a cute family car and stilll be a rugged off road vheicle when needed. i finally stopped at famous dave’s bbq and to my eternal saddness--no big ass'ed texas beef ribs. they have beef brisket-so they couldn’t get their hands on cows with ribs?? just asking.

so i got the tips with corn on the cob, potato salad, wilber’s beans with chunks of pork and bits of chili and some corn bread. so far so good. the tips are meaty with plenty of fat--which is the reason to eat any meat. to me its like the meat is extra stuff i gotta put up with to get to the fat. its a cute place made up of antler chandeliers, wood plank flooring and of course log rafters, walls, and cross beams. giving it that rustic feel. it reminds me of the Cartwrights home on Bonanza.

and talking of the Cartwights, not that it has anything to do with them, but lewis and clark and Sacagawea, their loyal indian maiden, play a very important part in the history/folklore of the area. i’ll have to go back to my history books and check out who exactly these lewis and clark dudes were. i’m thinking their like famous movie actors in days gone by who played indians in the movies-or something close to that.

i notice that a lot of men here sport long hair and tails--funny how i remember that little Joe Cartwright also sported a tail-at least i think he did--ANYBODY HELP ON THIS.? also, why little joe-something we didn't know about--small feet, small______?

lots of stashes and beards. i think i actually spotted bozeman’s one and only homeless person and he was dressed up in cowboy boots and shirt. the reason i think he’s homeless is cause i noticed him twice in two days just sitting on the park bench. maybe he just likes sitting on park benches or maybe he’s waiting for a cattle herd comming thru town.

so its sunday around 1pm, just did my 2.5 mile jog and its gonna be a cloudy/rainy day today. i just got into bozeman-needing to buy a couple of gifts for a couple of people -- one down, one to go. deedee woke me up about 2am with diarhrea- most likely induced from famous dave’s bbq--too much sauce. had to get up and give her a bath, change their bedding and back to bed. woke up a bit mushy. i def had mixed feelings about leaving this area. its so relaxing at nite--i hadn't mentioned it but there is no tv, no cable, no phone and no internet/WIFI, and no one else to talk to. yet, i’v enjoyed the time spent with the doggies and sitting on the patio staring up at the stars. it gets so quite-no cars, people, ANYTHING.

allergies or whatever--montana will always be on my mind--glenn, where are u-this is where u jump in with song and dance!!

Right off the bat, you notice the pine trees and more of a rugged mountainous terrain. i was so happy to finally be in Wyoming because i knew that montana was not too far off. What i didn't take into consideration is that starting in the yellowstone area, the mph is lowered to a crawl because of hiway repair and many little towns that dot the way. also, the hiway turns into a two lane-one each way.

i guess what strikes me most about Nevada, Utah, Idaho is the fact that there is so much open space--AND NO HIGHWAY OR STATE POLICE TO BE SEEN ANYWHERE. the legal speed limits range from 60 to 75 to 80mph in some stretches of highway.

i've been here going on 5 days now and have met serveral people and this is my take. by and large, they seem to be pretty friendly in a small town fashion-a bit guarded at first and then full of info afterwards. they really seem to enjoy their city and state and i can't blame them for montana is a gorgeous place to visit and i guess if your cold tolerant- a nice place to live in. i don't recall ever visiting an area with soooo many rivers and creeks and they all just take your breath away. it reminds me of austin or perhaps redondo beach without the beach. chi-chi and quaint and just a nice small town feel to it. being a college town- MONTANA STATE U just down the street, you do get the feel that the college kids have helped to kinda bring it into the modern era. nice coffee shops, tex/mex, bistros, and a couple of pubs--it seems that obtaining a liquer license in the state is difficult and expensive-though the local safeway etc sell beer and wine.
as far as i can tell this is the ethnic breakdown:

MEX--NOW THAT I SAW--THEN AGAIN I HAVEN'T GONE INTO THE RESTAURANT KITCHENS OR OUT TO THE APPLE FIELDS

YEA RIGHT I HAVE YET TO SEE ANYONE EVEN RESEMBLING "THE GAYS" AND I HAVE MY RADAR UP ON THE ROOF OF MY SUV. TALKING ABOUT TAKING UR BREATH AWAY--yesterday i finally decided to fish this creek along a dirt farm road just east of town-it was calling my name-or was that the breeze rustling thru the weeds- and i couldn't resist the lure. grasshoppers were all over the place so i rigged up one to my tippet and away we went. at first i cast from the shore and not getting any hits, i ventured further into the creek-mind-you, your not supposed to walk thru private land so i decided to wade in as i had my wading boots on and no big deal. after still no luck, i figured there was no one around and the path was already beaten down so off i went into what at first seemed an easy enough path. BUT KNOWING ME, i left the beaten path and ventured into the unknown brush and by the time i finally saw the creek again, i was covered in twigs, pollen, flowers and god knows what else. now i was totally on my own with no one around and the creek to myself. GREAT--THAT IS UNTIL MY NOSE STARTED RUNNING FASTER THAN THE CREEK- AND IT WAS A FAST CURRENT!! my allergies kicked into high gear and were relentless. it was a two step from then on-cast line and mop nose....

so to add insult to running nose and biting insects and whatever else lay in store in the brush or water, i'm still happily wading upstream when i put my left foot on what seemed a shallow pool and in i went--musta been bout 4-5 feet deep the pool i waded into. damn was it cold and luckily i had my wallet in a ziplock cause the wading boots were beyond their capacity and the quick dry pants were quickly wet. after the initial shock of cold water subsided, it actually became pleasurable---took me back to the days when i'd wet my pants in grade school and just felt that warm glow about myself.

so anyway, i stayed in for bout half an hour and then couldn't stand the allergies and private prop or not once i crawled up the bank i make a beeline straight for the car and straight for the nearest drug store. i hadn't gone this straight in a while!!

sorry bout the sparce chatter from yours truely, but with the phone thing and settling in and finding good wifi reception, it takes its hourly toll. uploading takes a hell of a lot of time. i should make it out to 4CORNERS today, supposedly a really good flyfishing area on the galletin river. a neighbor had given me directions to a creek that is a local favorite-but knowing me i kinda paid attention and couldnt find it--though i enjoyed the ride and scenery. trying to upload as much as possible every day. today i met a member of the BLACKFEET INDIAN NATION. we had a fantastic convo--basically me peppering her with questions about wild game meat and weather and whatnot and she telling me as much as possible in our short visit.. we ended by me getting her email address and we shall go from there. really nice to have spoken to you.

so i'm outside of las vegas and have to go tinkle so i pull into this huge, megalarge, monstrous, gigantic, stupendous, enormouse, monstrosity and just plain big truck stop with the largest, biggest, --well u get the point. ANYWHO, i go in and notice this cute guy in the urinal next over and so before u know it-well u know it AND THEN HIS DAD WALKS IN AND ALL I COULD THINK OF WAS TO THROW MY CELL PHONE INTO THE KIDS URINAL AND FISH IT OUT -TELLING THE DAD "O SORRY, I JUST DROPPED MY PHONE" HE WAS ACTUALLY QUITE NICE ABOUT IT-EVEN TOLD ME WHERE THE ATT STORE WAS. AS FOR THE BOY, WELL TURNS OUT HE WASN'T A BOY AFTER ALL BUT A MID PRE/POST OP HERMORPHREDITE/TRANSEXUAL WITH SEISURES TO BOOT.

so anyway, don't try and call me cause pee does not do wonders for your cell phone- at least it didn't for mine. i started late-8:30am and arrived at midpoint at 7:35pm. i had the motel name etc on my phone and couldn't remember the name, or street it was on--DAMN CHUCKIE, THE FUN YOU MISSED TODAY!! then the damn gps kept trying to send me off into the mountains looking for fillmore, utah. so here we are on the veranda of this precious little motel typing away. its like 75 degrees and just nice.

didn't get a chance to take any vids cause someone forgot to charge the damn battery and didnt bring the car charger. its charging now and i'll take some vids all day tomorrow. the distance is about 475 miles as the car drives on the interstate. today we logged 576 miles. i'm shooting for like 7 hours tomorrow, no big cities in the way except for salt lake city. so today i crossed cali, nevada, arizona, and utah. i shot some crap at the strip, rimmed the grand canyon, rubbed starchy shirts with some biker mormans and almost peed on myself-- and yes thats in addition to the urinal 2 carrot golden shower episode.

Sitting in his villa somewhere on the coast of Spain (presumably), is a man who had been taking the parking lot fees, estimated at £400 (about $560) per day at Bristol Zoo for the last 25 years. President Obama looks to abandon his usual games of golf or pick-up basketball — at least temporarily — later this week in favor of fishing.

White House Deputy Chief of Staff Jim Messina told the New York Times Thursday that the president would try his hand at fishing during a trip to Montana.

"I am going to have the great opportunity later this week," Messina said. "I'm going to take the leader of the free world fishing. And I plan to talk a little bit about public access."

Messina is a former chief of staff to Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D), another Montanan.

Obama has attracted some attention for golfing more consistently throughout the spring and summer on military bases here in D.C.

HO, I MEAN TWO SEGMENTS OF ABOUT 550 EACH. fillmore, utah is equal distance between l.a. and bozeman. the doggies and i will camp out there on saturday and leave early sunday on the other 8 hour haul to bozeman, and as some of you know, it might take me another 3 hours once i get into bozeman to find my cabin--EVEN WITH MY GPS!

Went out last nite to see Julie & Julia. being a Julia Child fan, i grew up watching her show on pbs and thinking that this tall, funny, woman was cooking dishes that i, as a tex/mex kid, never knew existed. i was hooked on her shows and always kept up with her series no matter what city i happened to live in. i give her all the credit for tempting me to try new foods, especially french foods heavyly laden with butter or saturated in heavy cream sauces. her love of cheese and meats became my love of cheese and meats and pate. to this day, give me a big chunk of cheese, a half pound of duck pate some cornichons, raw onion, mustard and crusty french bread lathered with butter and a good wine and as far as i'm concerned--IT BEATS SEX BY A MILE!! ITS ALSO A LOT EASIER AS YOU DON'T HAVE TO SHAVE, SHOWER, DOUCHE, MIST YOUR PARTNER WITH A SOLUTION OF CLORAX AND WATER, FLOSS, BRUSH, AND ON AND ON. then again, maybe i'm just not doing it the right way--

The Truth About Bottled Water

Imagine you’ve just been given a choice: You have to drink from one of two containers. One container is a cup from your own kitchen, and it contains a product that has passed strict state, federal and local guidelines for cleanliness and quality. Oh, and it’s free. The second container comes from a manufacturing plant somewhere, and its contents—while seemingly identical to your first choice—have not been subjected to the same strict national and local standards. It costs approximately four times more than gasoline. These products both look and taste nearly identical.

Which do you choose?

If you chose beverage A, congratulations: You just saved yourself a whole lot of money, and, perhaps, even contaminants, too. But if you picked beverage B, then you’ll be spending hundreds of unnecessary dollars on bottled water this year. Sure, bottled water is convenient, trendy, and may well be just as pure as what comes out of your tap. But it’s hardly a smart investment for your pocketbook, your body or our planet. Eat This, Not That! decided to take a closer look at what’s behind the pristine images and elegant-sounding names printed on those bottles.

You may actually be drinking tap water.
Case in point: Dasani, a Coca-Cola product. Despite its exotic-sounding name, Dasani is simply purified tap water that’s had minerals added back in. For example, if your Dasani water was bottled at the Coca-Cola Bottling Company in Philadelphia, you’re drinking Philly tap water. But it’s not the only brand of water that relies on city pipes to provide its product. About 25 percent of all bottled water is taken from municipal water sources, including Pepsi’s Aquafina.

Bottled water isn’t always pure.
Scan the labels of the leading brands and you see variations on the words “pure” and “natural” and “pristine” over and over again. And when a Cornell University marketing class studied consumer perceptions of bottled water, they found that people thought it was cleaner, with less bacteria. But that may not actually be true. For example, in a 4-year review that included the testing of 1,000 bottles of water, the Natural Resources Defense Council—one the country’s most ardent environmental crusaders—found that “about 22 percent of the brands we tested contained, in at least one sample, chemical contaminants at levels above strict state health limits.”

It’s not clear where the plastic container ends and the drink begins.
Turns out, when certain plastics are heated at a high temperature, chemicals from the plastics may leach into container’s contents. So there’s been a flurry of speculation recently as to whether the amounts of these chemicals are actually harmful, and whether this is even a concern when it comes to water bottles—which aren’t likely to be placed in boiling water or even a microwave. While the jury is still out on realistic health ramifications, it seems that, yes, small amounts of chemicals from PET water bottles such as antimony—a semi-metal that’s thought to be toxic in large doses—can accumulate the longer bottled water is stored in a hot environment. Which, of course, is probably a good reason to avoid storing bottled water in your garage for six months—or better yet, to just reach for tap instead.

Our country’s high demand for oil isn’t just due to long commutes.
Most water bottles are composed of a plastic called polyethylene terepthalate (PET). Now, to make PET, you need crude oil. Specifically, 17 million barrels of oil are used in the production of PET water bottles ever year, estimate University of Louisville scientists. No wonder the per ounce cost of bottled water rivals that of gasoline. What’s more, 86 percent of 30 billion PET water bottles sold annually are tossed in the trash, instead of being recycled, according to data from the Container Recycling Institute. That’s a lot of waste—waste that will outlive you, your children, and your children’s children. You see, PET bottles take 400 to 1000 years to degrade. Which begs the question: If our current rate of consumption continues, where will we put all of this discarded plastic?

I having some issues with how to download my youtube vids on here. the one bout my doggies is correct except for the fact that the volume lever is not visible-so I'm working on that. i got a site visitor counter on here and surprisingly enough, i did it correctly. one of my visits was from this site called -- http://www.condron.us/ --it bills itself as a blog channel flipper type gizmo, hope it flips thru my blog. its funny that at any given time of day, I'm on the phone or just shooting the breeze with my co-worker and getting into this or that topic and then i think about the blog and my mind goes blank. i think that its maybe cause i feel like it might not be good enough to talk about--but hells bells--probably most of the daily babbling we do is not worth its weight in gold. how you measure talk in relation to gold is another issue and may well be fodder for a blog entry.

Well, lets start with all the grey haired people. I am anxiously waiting for any of these elected leaders to kindly point to one of the elderly persons spewing his/her sillyassed "we don't want any goshdarned govment run healthcare" dribble and ask-"excuse me, but are you receiving social security payments, or medicare, or any other type of state and/or fed funded medical assistance for medical care, medicines, etc?" Or perhaps he can ask if any in the audience have fought bravely do defend their country and as if they are enrolled in any veterans care. Then again if you are disabled, there are both state and federal programs to assist you with your health needs.

if the elected leaders can't find any gray haired elders or vets or disabled hecklers, then maybe they just might luck out and find your everyday down on your luck individuals(the term "poor white trash" sounds fitting as you pan the audience and all you see is a sea of angry white people) who lack any type of health insurance and can let you know the addresses of all the surrounding emergency wards.

I'm watching this video and don't know if i should just laugh it off as some Jr high prank or make my move to Costa Rica to get away from the demented haters out there. Its strange that such an accomplished person(and she is- having been accepted by the California bar, owning 2 dental clinics as a dentist, and having raised 3 kids) can still be a MAJOR NUT CASE. I remember when John McCain's birth on a military installation in Panama was floated about as a disqualification and then it was quickly dropped by the Dems. Well, don't even think that these wackos will ever give up the fight. These crazies are one thing cause for the most part they are on the fringes and not duly elected representatives of the people. its the elected ass holes who when asked for their position on Barack's citizenship, can't quite seem to be able to bring themselves to just say "yes he is a legally born citizen". they hedge and haw, never actually stating a firm "no" just sort of leaving it out there for people to figure that if a senator or a house rep can't bring his/herself to unequivocally to state the affirmative, then hey- they must have legit reasons to doubt. they have no legit reasons. their not looking to have legit reasons. their not even looking to have half-assed excuses. they too are also soooooo pissed off that this black man is president that come hell or high water they will do whatever they can to undermine all his agenda, with no regard to anyone else but their selves and their raciest followers.

for the rest of us, keep the faith and if you ever run into one of these nutcases, ask to see their proof of citizenship and for good measure ask to see proof that they are born again christian!!!!

then again, we were in a dark theatre watching Sacha's latest-BRUNO-.

so lets get to the gist of all the baloney--and it was sort of cute in a slightly tumescent stage.

ITS SUPPOSED TO PISS SOME PEOPLE OFF, ITS SUPPOSED TO MAKE YOU LOOSE BOWEL CONTROL, ITS SUPPOSED TO BE NASTY, NAUGHTY N NICE. I've heard all the crap about it being over the top sexually and insulting to gays, straights and stray sheep somewhere in New Zealand--yea, WHAT EVA!!! as a gay man, i can't quite understand all the malarky from the likes of GLAAD- get over it, get on to the much more important issues like DADT, EQUAL MARRIAGE, REPEAL OF DOMA, ETC. it quite simply is one of the silliest, stupidest, downright laugh my ass off movie that I've seen in like years. its like a Monty Pyton laugh fest with one verbal or sight gag after another. maybe I'm just a jaded seen it all type of guy, but i can't for the life of me see anything that would come close to really truly offend someone unless that certain someone was a total dyed in the wool christianist, kkker, or homophobic idiot. AND THEN--WTF(what the fuck) are they doing in the damn place-- knowing that there gonna be bitch slapped by swinging penises. luckily for me, I'm not one to make a decision to see/not see a movie based on others views. if you wanna see a movie that keeps you in stitches from the moment it starts to the end--this, my friends, is the movie for you.

OJ--let me splain- i have been rather a lazy bum these last couple of weeks- blaming my bloglessness on everything from anal warts to lack of desire to malaise brought on by too much work, too little sex--AND YES, I FINALLY GOT SOME AFTER A 2.5 YEAR DRY SPELL--HOT DAMN--gearing up for my Montana trip, reworking my Deedee's 4 wheeler and all other sort of rot.

i used to tell Chuckie, by best est friend that i always wanted to take 2 baths a day and that way when i got older, i would down grade it to just one bath daily-still good. now on the other hand, if i started off with just taking one bath a day and then when the old age thingy hit me--well hells bells- I'd wind up taking zero baths and that my friends is stinky poo time and anybody that's anybody that knows me knows that stinky peeps is like a major turn off for me. hell, I've been know to mist my PSTs(personal service techs) down before doing the enema thing

but anywho, i digress. the point of the bathing thing is this, is it just me or are most of us slightly middle aged pushing on old age farts allowing this and that excuse to keep us from achieving our goals, doing our daily chores, engaging in the hobbies/sports we enjoy, etc? it seems that nowadays, i spend much more negative effort making excuses for not doing this and that. its not like i don't have the time. its not like i can't manage my daily routines to include things i need to do or things i wanna do. it just seems that before i really know whats happening, my brain has already found 36 reasons why i shouldn't brush my teats before i go to bed, why i shouldn't get up in the middle of the nite to pee, why i can't get my running shoes on and get out there and do my daily jog.

i think back to just a few years ago before i met my last LOML(love of my life). i was out on my bike doing 70-95 mile laps thru the city up and down the coast and couldn't wait to do it again.

i would berate my less physically active bfs and friends and tell them that if they didn't do it now while they were still young, it would be hell to pay once the 50's came around--DAMN, PAYBACK IS A BITCH!!

SOOOO, there it is in a nutshell. I've got to get off my lazy petite booty and dust off this still young hearted body and realize that I've still got another 50 or so years left and as long as i can run a hundred yards, i can run two hundred yards and so on and so on... its really about allowing yourself the right to stay young at heart regardless of how you might feel at any given time and stick to what has always worked for you. i allowed my divorce to somehow mark me as an older guy. i allowed it to rob me of my vigor, my playfulness, my desire for life that was the reason why i was able to attract the cute ones in the first place.
